He will make you repeat the same thing again and again till you wear out and leave. That is not to say repetition is a bad thing but there is a limit to how much one ought to repeat to build muscle memory. In my time of almost a decade under him, I found out long after I left that I was not taught the content for the rank I had reached and I was only able to know this by reading the curriculum found on the official website of Budokan Karate. Moreover, he does not focus on Bunkai even though his focus is on Kata. So basically he is teaching you a warlike dance movements without teaching the meaning behind those moves. This guy may be a direct student of Chew Choo Soot but his organisation isn't a recognised one and this is why there is no standard which gives him the liberty to teach whatever he wants, whenever he wants. It is due to people like these, most martial arts we have is a watered down version and the deep meaning of each movements have been lost. |
